There is no need for Arabic pronunciation in the article
[edit]This island belongs to Iran and only its Persian pronunciation should be mentioned in the article. Not the pronunciation of another country. مصطفی کوهستانی (talk) 02:22, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Given that the island was formerly administered by the Emirate of Sharjah and that it remains a disputed territory, including the Arabic pronunciation in this article is justified. 216.181.221.63 (talk) 22:28, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
Absolute ownership of the island
[edit]The island is owned by Iran, according to a satellite photo. There is no connection with the UAE Irandamavand (talk) 17:26, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
- Given that the UAE still claims to the island, and that the island was formerly administered by the Emirate of Sharjah prior to the Iranian invasion, there absolutely is a connection to the UAE. 216.181.221.63 (talk) 22:31, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- این جزیره از سالیان گذشته متعلق به ایران بوده است و در اسناد بینالمللی و تاریخ همواره به کشور ایران تعلق داشته است Behzad100 (talk) 11:48, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Doubting statement in the introduction
[edit]The article's introduction reads: Due to the depth of sea, oil tankers and big ships have to pass between Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunbs, making these islands some of the most strategic points in the Persian Gulf. and references to a 30 year old book of worldwide political flashpoints.
I doubt that the statement is true. If you check actual ship traffic on marinetraffic https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:54.7/centery:26.1/zoom:9, it appears that actually only a fraction of the traffic going through the Strait of Hormuz actually passes between Abu Musa and the Tunb islands.
I hence doubnt the reliability of this source - maybe it was misinformed, ar things have changed since then - and would suggest to remove the statement unless someone comes up with additional proof. H005 (talk) 13:47, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- Does that search filter only for deeper draft ships? Some vessels have more restrictive channel navigation requirements and the maneuverable area of the Strait is much narrower for them than it is for smaller craft. ⇒SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 21:59, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- It is possible that it depends on the ship's draught. But then the statement should reflect that and not talk about "oil tankers and big ships". Fact is that there are many oil tankers and ships that anyone would call "big" don't pass between Abu Musa and the Tunbs. -- H005 (talk) 11:26, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
